The town of Sewall's Point is strictly residential, with no commercial development allowed. That single zoning fact shapes every summer weekend. It is why the neighborhood stays canopied and calm, and it is why your Saturday morning always ends with a bridge.
The routine that makes August livable here is not a list of destinations. It is a two-bridge loop. West across the Evans Crary into downtown Stuart, east across the Ernest Lyons to Hutchinson Island, and back home to a peninsula that is only 1/3 of a mile wide and 3 1/2 miles long. Everything below is arranged around that loop, with the specific dates and hours you actually need for the rest of the month.
What Is Actually On The Peninsula
Not much, and that is the point. Riverside Drive is the spine of the neighborhood, and residents treat it as their linear park. Locals enjoy biking or strolling along scenic Riverside Drive, a picturesque road that hugs the water and winds through tree-lined neighborhoods. In August the practical hours are before 8:30 AM or after 6:30 PM. Anything in between is a sweat test.
The town's only public green space sits where the peninsula meets the causeway. Sewall's Point Park at 1 S Sewall's Point Rd has a playground, swing benches, and a rentable gazebo, and it is located at the south base of the Stuart Causeway and across the street from Sewall's city hall on the shores of the Indian River Lagoon, providing water views and fishing opportunities. This is the town's only park. For daily errands, the small strip at the entrance to the neighborhood, Sewall's Point Plaza, features boutique shops, local service providers, and essentials like a pharmacy. That is the commercial universe on the peninsula. Everything else waits on the other side of a bridge.
West Bridge: The Sunday That Anchors The Week
The reason so many residents drive west on Sunday morning is that the market at Flagler Park has quietly changed identity. Market On Main, formerly known as the Downtown Stuart Green Market, is now managed and operated by Stuart Main Street. Same waterside spot on SW Flagler Avenue, new hands running it, and a broader vendor mix than the produce-first version longtime residents remember.

Two things worth calibrating expectations on. First, this is no longer a farm-forward market. You will find locally grown fruits and vegetables, herbs, plants and fresh cut flowers, grass-fed beef, poultry, eggs and cheeses, organic spice blends, homemade pickles and sauces, fresh baked breads, and pastries, plus handcrafted soaps, candles, skincare, leather goods, jewelry, and crafts. Vegan, gluten free and dairy free options are available. There is a mobile craft bar, live music and the occasional art or wellness class. It is home of the Kids Market, a dedicated section of vendors under the age of 16. If you are shopping for the week's produce, come early and be honest with yourself that you are also there for coffee and a chat.
Second, save the evening of Friday Aug 7 for the amphitheater. Stuart Farmers Market & Amphitheater on Friday, August 7 opens gates at 6:00 PM with music at 6:30 PM, and offers live music, food trucks, face painting, and local libations in downtown Stuart. It is a ten-minute drive from most of the peninsula and it functions, for many families here, as the closest thing to a hometown town square.
The other date to circle is Saturday, Aug 22. An art walk at Harbour Bay Plaza in Stuart runs 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM, showcasing local artists at the nearby plaza. Harbour Bay is the same shopping center where residents already pick up coffee and gifts, so the low commitment is part of the appeal. Two hours, a glass of something, and you are home before the mosquitoes get organized.
East Bridge: Water You Can Actually Get Into
If the west bridge is for the weekly errand, the east bridge is for the reason you moved here. Cross the Ernest Lyons and you are at the sand in less than ten minutes. Stuart Beach is the default swim day, and for families with small children Indian RiverSide Park in Jensen Beach does more work than any single amenity on the peninsula: an interactive splash pad open seven days a week, open grass fields, a 780-foot fishing pier, picnic pavilions, and a walking path just under a mile long.
Indian RiverSide is also where the peninsula's own history now lives. The home of Sewall's founder Henry Sewall was moved from Sewall's Point to Indian RiverSide Park, restored, and opened to the public for tours in 2012. If you have out-of-town family visiting in August and the beach has burned everyone out by 11 AM, the Sewall House and the Children's Museum next door are the natural pivot.
One more east-side note for families with older kids. Monday through Friday, August 4 to 8, a surf camp for ages 6 to 16 runs 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Hobe Sound Public Beach at the east end of Bridge Road. It is a longer drive than Stuart Beach, but it is the last week of the program, and the swell tends to be more forgiving in late summer than the winter sessions.

The strict-residential rule has one useful exception at the peninsula's tip. Kyle G's is a local favorite offering fresh seafood, creative cuisine, and waterfront views, minutes from the neighborhood and a favored spot for sunset dinners and social gatherings. Reservations on a Saturday in August are not optional. Harbour Bay Plaza, on the way in or out, holds Stringers Tavern & Oyster Bar and a handful of family-owned shops, and it is the pragmatic answer when you do not feel like committing to downtown Stuart or the beach.
For visiting family who ask "where should we eat?", the honest answer is that most of the good tables are a short drive south into Hobe Sound or across the Roosevelt Bridge, and the fun of a Sewall's Point summer is that you always know which bridge is which. West for the market and the amphitheater. East for the sand and the pier. Down A1A for the seafood on stilts. Home to a canopy that has been there longer than any of us.
The Bigger Picture
The reason this loop matters to anyone thinking about the peninsula as a place to live is that the "no commercial" rule is not a quirk. It is the mechanism that keeps the streets narrow, the oaks old, the traffic light, and the water views uninterrupted. Occupying a peninsula, it is bordered by water on the south, east, and west. On the south and west is the St. Lucie River and to the east is the Indian River Lagoon. On the north it is bordered by unincorporated Jensen Beach. The bridges are not an inconvenience. They are the reason the neighborhood looks and feels the way it does.
